2023 Kia K5
In 2021, Kia redesigned its popular sedan and changed its name from the Optima to the K5. Since then, it's been a leading model in the automaker's lineup, boasting impressive driving performance and high-end features.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2023 Kia K5 is a midsize sedan offered in five trim levels: LX, LXS, GT-Line, EX, and GT. All models have sporty design elements and eye-catching curves, but the GT-Line and GT are the sportiest of the bunch. Standard exterior features on the LX trim include 16-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, body-color accents, and solar-control glass. The LXS adds remote engine-start and proximity keyless entry with push-button start.
The sportier GT-Line includes black exterior accents, larger 18-inch wheels, and LED taillights and fog lights. You can also add a package that bundles a panoramic sunroof with glossy-black trim. Step up to the EX to get the panoramic sunroof as standard, along with a few styling enhancements. With the top GT trim, features include 19-inch wheels with upgraded brakes and a sport-tuned suspension.
Engine (Power)
The lower four trim levels of the K5 include a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that makes 180 horsepower. It works with an eight-speed transmission that powers the front wheels. The LXS and GT-Line are available with Kia's all-wheel-drive system as an optional upgrade. If you choose the GT trim, your vehicle will come with a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder unit that's good for 290 horsepower. It pairs with an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Performance
Although the base engine is powerful enough for everyday driving, performance-focused buyers will likely prefer the feel of the upgraded unit in the GT trim. Both automatic transmissions deliver smooth and efficient shifting, while the steering and handling are direct in all driving conditions. If you frequently drive on slick or rough roads, upgrading to all-wheel drive is probably worthwhile.
Interior
The 2023 Kia K5 cabin doesn't disappoint, thanks to the premium materials and supportive seats. With the base trim, standard comfort features include dual-zone automatic climate control, manually adjustable front seats, and cloth upholstery. This model also features a six-speaker audio system with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration and an 8-inch touch screen. The LXS adds a few interior enhancements, such as rear-seat USB ports and a rear center armrest, while the GT-Line tacks on a power driver's seat, simulated leather and cloth upholstery, a larger 10.25-inch touch screen, and wireless device charging. Choose the EX to get heated and ventilated front seats, full simulated leather upholstery, and rear-seat climate vents. This model is also available with a premium 12-speaker Bose audio system, driver's seat memory settings, and a heated steering wheel. The GT trim comes with sport front seats and several of the enhancements offered on the EX.
Safety Features
Every 2023 K5 comes equipped with advanced safety features, including both active and passive aids. The standard suite includes anti-lock brakes, forward-collision mitigation, a driver attention warning system, lane-keeping assist, stability and traction control, and a rearview camera. Options on the higher trims include adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, a rear passenger safe-exit system, a surround-view camera system, and rear automatic braking.
